India have had a timid first two days at the Rio 2016 Olympics and things can only improve from now on. On day three, experienced stalwarts in Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang are expected to provide the much needed turnaround for the Indian shooting contingent which has been disappointing thus far. They will be involved in the 10m Air Rifle event with shooters Kynan Chenai and Manavjeet Singh Sandhu continuing their qualifiers in the Men’s trap shooting event. Also featuring on Monday will be the two hockey teams with the men facing an uphill challenge of Germany and the women against Great Britain in the wee hours in an equally daunting task. The archery team may have lost to Russia in the quarterfinals on Sunday night but the individual events continue with Laxmirani Majhi in action against Alexandra Longova of Slovakia. The other archers Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi are in action in the coming days.
India’s representation in the pool also begins today with Shivani Kataria and Sajan Prakash in Women’s 200m freestyle and Men’s 200m butterfly events at the Aquatics Centre.
In all, expect the biggest thrill from the hockey teams but if you’re hoping for a medal today, eye nowhere else but the shooting range featuring Bindra and Narang.
